DC Charter School Alliance Announces Rachel Johnston Will Serve as Chief of Staff
Washington, DC – Today, the DC Charter School Alliance, an advocacy organization that supports and represents the robust charter school sector in our nation’s capital, announced that Rachel Johnston has been named Chief of Staff, effective immediately. Johnston previously served as Senior Director of Operations and School Support for the DC Alliance. In this role, Johnston will lead the school support team, as well as coordinate and manage essential DC Alliance activities, ensuring all organizational functions are efficient and effective.
“I’m honored by the confidence placed in me and grateful for the opportunity to step into this important role that helps the DC Alliance continue advancing the work of the District’s public charter schools in providing educational and support services to students and families,” said Johnston.
Prior to joining the DC Alliance, Johnston served as the Strategic Initiatives and Finance Coordinator at Kingsman Academy Public Charter School. She started as Director of Special Projects at the DC Alliance in October 2021, where she facilitated collaboration among charter schools in pandemic recovery, academic and nonacademic programs and interventions, procurement, policy development, and professional development. Johnston also coordinated and streamlined pandemic-related support for charter schools. As Senior Director of Operations and School Support, she led a portfolio of projects that included bringing school leaders together, connecting them with partners and developing resources aligned with the needs of the DC charter school sector. She also managed the DC Alliance’s business operations.
“Rachel’s tremendous expertise and skill have been invaluable to this organization, and I know our charter school leaders agree,” said Ariel Johnson, DC Charter School Alliance Executive Director. “She’s been an exceptional leader at the DC Alliance, and we’re thrilled that she’s taking on this critical role to help ensure we’re effectively and efficiently supporting charter schools and their students.”
