This Month at the DC Alliance
June 2026
Congratulations on completing another school year and thank you for joining us at Charter Night at the Washington Nationals on May 19. We hope everyone has a great last few weeks of school with end of the year celebrations and graduations!
The DC Alliance continues to advocate for equitable funding as the District’s FY27 Budget is finalized. Below are the important dates for the final part of this process:
Tue, June 9: First Council Vote on FY27 Local Budget Act and the FY27 Budget Support Act
Tue, June 23: Final Council Vote on FY27 Local Budget Act and Federal Portion Budget Request Act
TBD: Final Council Vote on FY27 Budget Support Act
We will continue to send updates and opportunities via email to join us in advocacy and don’t forget to check out our NEW Advocacy Hub for the latest updates on hearings, advocacy training, and testimony resources.
June 16th marks an important election in the District and the first election with Rank Choice Voting. Check out and share our short video on Rank Choice Voting with your communities. Our sister organization, DC Charter School Action, has been engaged in the elections – please reach out to Ariel (ariel@dccsaction.org) and Andy (andy@dccsaction.org) if you have questions about the election.

While some of our regular programming and meetings pause for the summer given scheduling challenges, the DC Alliance invites you to engage in a few opportunities in June and July:
If you are attending the National Charter School Conference, the DC Charter School Alliance and DC Kids and Schools are hosting a reception on Thursday, June 25, from 4:00–6:00 pm at JOLIE (324 Julia St.), a cocktail bar just eight minutes from the conference hotel. Join DC attendees, public charter school leaders, and our partners and friends for an evening of connection and conversation. A special thank-you to the Equitable Facilities Fund for sponsoring the event. Attending the conference, but haven't received an invitation? Reach out to Noah Dougherty
Education leaders from across DC will come together on Thursday, July 23, at Nationals Park for a District-wide Attendance Summit focused on improving student attendance and engagement. Step Up to the Plate for Attendance, hosted by the DC Charter School Alliance, DC Public Schools, and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education in partnership with the Washington Nationals, will bring together cross-sector partners and school teams to share strategies, collaborate on solutions, and build a game plan for helping every student show up and succeed. Please complete the interest form to receive the official registration link.
