DC Charter School Alliance Applauds DC Council for Protecting Charter Facilities Funding
Following the news that the DC Council, under the leadership of Chairman Mendelson, protected the annual charter school facilities allotment increase in the FY25 Budget, DC Charter School Alliance Executive Director Ariel Johnson released the following statement:
“In a year with difficult budget choices, we applaud the Council for continuing to invest in the facilities our students, families, and educators need to flourish. We’re grateful for Chairman Mendelson’s leadership and commitment to equity for all students, Councilmember Henderson’s strong support for the funding charter schools need to educate our students in safe, comfortable buildings, and the whole Council for their unanimous support in protecting the annual charter facilities allotment increase.”
In addition to rejecting the proposed repeal of the annual 3.1% increase to the charter facilities allotment, the Council completed its annual series of budget votes today to:
Approve Mayor Bowser’s proposed increase to the UPSFF by 12.4%;
Approve Mayor Bowser’s proposed increase to the UPSFF Adult students weight from .91 to 1.0;
Approve Mayor Bowser’s proposed increase to the UPSFF Alternative program weight from 1.52 to 1.58;
Add an additional $17.5 million for charter facilities funding over the four-year financial plan to restore the annual 3.1% charter facilities allotment increase law;
Provide $1.2 million in one-time funds to St. Colletta Special Education PCS to support excess costs of students with significant and complex disabilities.
