DC Charter School Alliance Statement on the Passing of Connie Spinner

The DC Charter School Alliance is saddened to learn of the passing of Connie Spinner, longtime DC official and Founding CEO & Head of School at Community College Preparatory Academy Public Charter School (CC Prep). Connie is remembered for her kindness, compassion, strategic brilliance, and unwavering dedication to educational excellence, and she will be deeply missed by the entire DC charter school community.

After a decades-long career in adult education, Connie founded CC Prep in 2013 to give students the college readiness skills and workforce skills necessary to compete in DC’s constantly-changing workforce skills environment. Prior to founding CC Prep, Connie served as Dean of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning at UDC, was a director at the State Education Office, the precursor agency to OSSE, and was also the director of former Mayor Williams’ Adult Literacy and Lifelong Learning Initiative.

Connie was a visionary leader and a brilliant thought leader. Our condolences are with her family, friends, and the entire CC Prep community. CC Prep will be organizing a memorial to honor Connie’s memory and her extraordinary contributions to the school. Further details regarding the memorial will be shared in the coming days.
