As the Alliance's Director of Communications and External Affairs, Katie helps shape the narratives and strategies that advance DC's public charter schools while partnering with LEA-based communications leaders to support schools through critical moments and amplify storytelling across the sector. As the graduate of a public charter school in Davis, CA, she brings a deep and personal commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to shape their own educational experience.

Prior to joining the Alliance, Katie served as a senior director at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School, leading communications, fundraising, marketing, and stakeholder engagement through a CEO transition, pandemic recovery, and multiple crisis responses.

Her broader experience includes serving as Deputy Chief of Communications for DC Public Schools — directing organic, earned, and paid media campaigns across 117 schools — as well as working with the DC Child and Family Services Agency and OSSE's My School DC team. Earlier in her career, she led communications and engagement initiatives for public sector, social impact, political, and higher education organizations.

Katie holds a master's in Political Management and a bachelor's in International Affairs from The George Washington University.

After nearly 15 years in DC, this Northern Californian now calls Baltimore home — where you'll find her jogging, visiting the dog park, diving into horror films and books, or shopping at HMart.
