DC Charter School Alliance Celebrates Women’s History Month

Last week marked the start of Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate the profound contributions women have made throughout our country’s history. This year’s theme is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” honoring the many women who have fought to secure a fair and just society for all.

The DC Charter School Alliance proudly celebrates the contributions of the women in our community, past and present, who have dedicated their lives to ensuring every child has access to high-quality public school education. This year, we’re particularly grateful to honor the late Dr. Ramona H. Edelin, an icon of the civil rights movement who devoted the past two decades of her life to uplifting and advancing the African American Community and advocating for high-quality educational opportunities in the District. I encourage you to read more about Romana and the legacy she leaves behind here.

DC’s public charter schools are led and supported by many inspiring women, including staff, teachers, and leaders. Our work simply would not be possible without their dedication and passion. This Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate these courageous women advocating for equality and justice in education and share our gratitude for all they do.

Here’s a list of ways to celebrate the occasion or learn more. If none of these options work, don’t forget to shop or eat at a women-owned establishment at least once this month!
