DC Charter School Alliance Applauds Mayor Bowser’s Commitment to Investing in Students and Educators

Washington, DC –– Following the news that Mayor Muriel Bowser will increase the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula (UPSFF) by 12.4 percent in her Fiscal Year 2025 budget proposal, DC Charter School Alliance Executive Director Ariel Johnson released the following statement:

“As our schools will soon face a funding cliff with federal dollars running out this year, we applaud Mayor Bowser’s historic proposed increase to the UPSFF and her steadfast commitment to investing in our city’s education system. We’re especially grateful for her commitment to ensuring the ongoing costs of educator raises are covered and her focus on supporting the students most in need by increasing the UPSFF weights for students designated at-risk, alternative students, and adult students.

“Investing in our students is how we will support long-term academic recovery, allowing our schools to continue providing targeted interventions to ensure students get the support necessary to close the achievement gap.

“We’re also grateful to Deputy Mayor Paul Kihn and State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant and their teams for all the work they’re doing to support academic recovery and the support they provide to our schools. We look forward to our continued partnership with Mayor Bowser and the city’s education agencies to ensure we provide the education every student across the District deserves.”
